Local Landmark Designation for the Building at 1623 Broadway Street (bh)

Summary

Toledo staff recommends approving local landmark designation for the 1916 Viking Lodge Building at 1623–1627 Broadway Street, owned by Mosaic Ministries. The three-story brick structure, historically used for commercial activity and community meetings, is located in the Broadway Corridor/Old South End and is also being considered for the National Register of Historic Places. Planned rehabilitation includes roof, masonry, window, and door repairs; an accessible rear elevator and stair; classrooms; offices; and food-service facilities. The ballroom would remain historically intact. Designation would place future exterior changes under the City Historic District Commission’s review and preservation standards. City Council must initiate the designation by resolution after Plan Commission and Historic District Commission review.
