San José plans to host 2028 Olympic Torch Relay events
San José plans to negotiate an agreement to host part of the 2028 Olympic Torch Relay, giving residents a chance to see the Olympic Flame in the city. The city would provide planning, facilities, traffic control, emergency medical services, sanitation and public safety at no charge to LA28. Preliminary relay costs are $227,700 to $283,250, with another $365,200 to $419,760 if San José hosts a free Cauldron Lighting Ceremony. Mayor Mahan will lead fundraising; if it falls short, staff will return with a funding proposal. The City Council is scheduled to consider the action on November 3, 2026.
