San Jose directs changes to abandoned-vehicle complaints and enforcement
San José officials are moving to improve how the Department of Transportation handles abandoned-vehicle complaints, explains case outcomes and coordinates cases outside its authority. The council approved accepting the City Auditor’s findings and directed the City Manager to add district-level performance measures, study repeat cases and 72-hour movement enforcement, and create referral protocols with other departments. DOT handled about 10,000 cases from July 2025 through March 2026, closing 98% within 14 days and achieving 80% voluntary compliance.
