The Richmond Ambulance Authority (RAA) presented to the City Council's Organizational Development Standing Committee on July 6, 2026, regarding the transition of Emergency Medical Call Services to its agency. The RAA conducted a call volume analysis to anticipate the expected increase in emergency medical calls upon the return of Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) to its Communications Center. This analysis will inform staffing adjustments to ensure timely and accurate call handling. To facilitate this transition, the RAA is increasing staffing and utilizing experienced call takers across all shifts. Training is a priority, with all EMD certified staff completing a refresher course and participating in simulated scenarios using advanced AI tools.
