Oakland expands housing fund uses for homeless housing and prevention services

Oakland will allow a portion of its Affordable Housing Trust Fund to support operating and rental subsidies for housing serving people experiencing homelessness and extremely low-income households. The ordinance also removes the June 30, 2027, expiration date for using those funds on homelessness prevention and anti-displacement services. The change does not spend or appropriate money now; future uses would require additional City Council action. The council approved it with 8 votes in favor and no votes against, absences or abstentions.
