Oakland to pay Roots & Soul $300,000 for hosting Australia’s World Cup team

Oakland will pay Oakland Pro Soccer LLC, which operates the Oakland Roots & Soul, the full $300,000 allowed under a tax-sharing agreement tied to hosting Australia’s men’s World Cup team. June 2026 General Fund hotel-tax revenue reached $1,698,272, above the $1,355,084 baseline; the city will retain $1,398,272 plus more than $460,000 in Measure C surcharge revenue. Staff say the club created one full-time and 42 temporary part-time positions, while its security contract supported nearly 4,000 hours of work. The City Council is scheduled to receive the results for information on October 13, 2026; payment is due by October 31.
