Jacksonville proposes faster permits and a $20,000 starting fee

Jacksonville would expand expedited permit reviews for eligible economic-development projects and create a $20,000 participation fee. Public Works would coordinate the program, while participating city agencies would appoint contacts and speed reviews and inspections when capacity allows. The fee could rise to $40,000 without another council ordinance, and an exceptional-project fee could reach twice the program fee. Ninety percent of fee revenue would support building inspections and 10% would support affordable housing. The ordinance was introduced on behalf of the mayor and still needs council action and the mayor’s signature.
