Appropriation Of Opioid Settlement Funds (Rogers, by request)

Summary

Resolution R-26-69 would appropriate $5.2 million in opioid settlement funds during Fiscal Year 2027 through the City’s LG Abatement Fund 201. The Department of Health, Housing and Homelessness would receive the funding for four efforts: $2 million to create a new treatment-navigation and assessment function within the Gateway System of Care; $1.4 million for the Medical Sobering Center; $300,000 for recovery housing; and $1.5 million for Albuquerque Public Schools’ second-year Opioid Crossroads prevention and intervention program. The legislation targets residents with opioid or related substance-use disorders, including people needing treatment, housing, recovery support, or connections to care, as well as APS students. It implements priorities established in R-25-128 and is intended to expand evidence-based treatment access, overdose prevention, and continuity of care. Without approval, the new navigation service would not be prioritized, and the sobering, recovery-housing, and APS programs could lose funding.
