EC-26-215: Filing Application for FY26 Defense Community Infrastructure Program Grant
Description
Filing Application for FY26 Defense Community Infrastructure Program Grant
Summary
EC-26-215 authorizes Albuquerque to apply for up to $4,267,727 through the federal FY26 Defense Community Infrastructure Program and seek up to $1,831,601 in state matching funds. The proposed $6,099,328 project would improve three major corridors leading to Kirtland Air Force Base. Work would include transportation safety and speed-management measures, updated traffic signals, fiber-optic infrastructure, and traffic-management technology. The local match is currently proposed from General Obligation Bonds but could be reduced or replaced by state funds. The project affects military and civilian personnel, contractors, visitors, and nearby residents. It involves a partnership among the City, Kirtland Air Force Base, and the Kirtland Partnership Committee, and would generate no revenue. Without approval, the City could forfeit federal funding and lose the opportunity to address documented safety and operational problems.
